Larry Heard Aka Mr Fingers (Live)
7:00 PM - 11:00 PM
Lorna Clarkson has 25 years professional experience in music programming and curation. From Lorna’s career beginnings, making mixtapes with her dad for their legendary family parties to directing the music tastes of the next generation via her current work with Kinderling Kids Radio, Lorna has always driven to create connection, and shape a collective experience, through music.
In brief, Lorna is a DJ, music director, journalist, radio host, and event programmer. She has curated stages for Laneway Festival, music editor of Pages Online and Muzik Magazine, longstanding judge for the Australian Music Prize, and in 2009, she was acknowledged as a Creative Catalyst of Sydney, a one-off list that honoured inspirational and innovative Sydneysiders who have made a unique contribution to the city’s creative culture.
Over the years, Lorna has focussed on bringing people together – on and off the dancefloor. On the decks, she fills dancefloors at the largest festivals (Sydney Festival, Splendour In The Grass, Vivid) to the smallest underground clubs (Good God, Mad Racket, Civic Underground), both locally and internationally.
But building and supporting local music communities behind the scenes is also at the core of Lorna’s work. In 2006 Lorna launched CDR Australia, a grass roots music event designed to facilitate the connection and development of local music producers, giving a platform to the once unknown artists Seekae and Ribongia.
When not working the dance floor late at night, Lorna hosts and curates a multiaward winning radio show Down Low Disco on 2SER 107.3 FM pushing all new/unreleased electronic music with her all-female production team. She also works with the internationally renowned Red Bull Music Academy; curating events, hosting live interview events at the Opera House; live international broadcasts from festivals such as OutsideIn 2015 and, most recently, has being selected to produce and host a new Australian music show Scenery for international radio station RBMA Radio.
But Lorna’s main focus is as Music Director for Kinderling Kids Radio. Focussed on young children and their grown-ups, Kinderling is a completely new family focussed broadcasting model and Lorna has designed and shaped the successful sound of the station from its inception. In its first year, Kinderling already sits in the top 10 digital channels in Australia and continues to grow weekly.
