ROAD TO WEEKENDER
Paving the way for Red Bull Music Academy Weekender’s sophomore festival is the Road to Weekender: a series of select signature events & public lectures from the Sydney lineup that are hitting locales nationwide, visiting Perth, Melbourne, Adelaide & Brisbane from August 26th to August 31st.
The Road to Weekender begins in Perth, where ABRA will make her Australian debut before travelling to Melbourne, Adelaide and Brisbane. The duchess with two acclaimed EPs and a full-length to her name, joins a collaborative superbill of local producers and MCs assembled via Thank Guard Magazine.
Soon-to-be-announced conversations with pioneering artists and Academy alumni will visit all the aforementioned cities as part of the Road to Weekender, while Melbourne will receive two additional events, taken from the Sydney lineup. On August 29, Midori Takada will provide a live evening of ambience from Southbank’s Melbourne Recital Centre. Joined by Krakatau, Takada will take on world modes of music for a journey akin to Sydney’s site-specific Talk to the Breeze offering. On September 1, Peven Everett will bring his esteemed live show to Thornbury’s Croxton Bandroom for a euphoric evening alongside local names J’Nett, Winters and Silent Jay & Jace XL.

Red Bull Music Academy Weekender returns to Sydney in 2017, with a mighty celebration of music, that builds upon the Academy’s founding core principles of fostering creativity and encouraging collaboration and expression at home and abroad.
Taking place from August 31 – September 3, Red Bull Music Academy Weekender is a curatorial series of live performances, conversations with pioneering artists, club nights and audio-visual installations that will descend upon Sydney’s unique boroughs for a thrilling exploration of musical identity. Paving the way for Red Bull Music Academy Weekender’s eagerly awaited Sydney return, the Road to Weekender will travel to Perth, Melbourne, Adelaide & Brisbane for a series of select signature events & public lectures from the Sydney line up from August 26 – August 31. Red Bull Radio will be broadcasting live from across the festival, featuring special guests, conversations and local stories, plus livestreams from Red Bull Music Academy Weekender highlight events.
In 2016, 11 events with over 40 artists took place across multiple locales for Sydney’s first-ever Weekender festival. The four-day affair saw Flight Facilities and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra take over Sydney’s Domain, godfather of house Larry Heard aka Mr. Fingers make his Australian debut, seminal LA label Stones Throw celebrate their 20th Anniversary & Italian composer Gigi Masin score a starlit evening of ambience. The program resumes in 2017 with a celebration and exploration of contemporary music.
